Education resources and student sponsorship

IBDF develops independent public-interest resources and supports students entering the conversations that shape blockchain technology.

Education program

Independent Education for a Technology That Matters

Our education program develops and distributes resources that explain blockchain technology clearly and accurately to non-specialist audiences. We focus on the mechanisms and applications with the greatest real-world impact: proof-of-stake consensus systems, blockchain-based payment infrastructure, and stablecoins.

Our materials are designed for multiple audiences. Policymakers and regulators need frameworks for understanding what blockchain systems do and what oversight questions they raise. Educators need accurate foundational content they can adapt for students at different levels. General audiences need plain-language explanations that cut through hype and give them real information.

We publish explainers, policy briefs, and technical primers, all available without charge. We work with educators to develop curriculum materials suitable for university and continuing education settings. We also maintain an ongoing commentary series that addresses emerging developments in blockchain technology as they unfold.

Our goal is not to advocate for any particular blockchain protocol or application, but to build the shared knowledge base that informed decision-making requires. An economy that adopts blockchain technology wisely will do so because its institutions and citizens understood what they were choosing, and why.

Student sponsorship program

Access to the Conversations That Shape the Field

The blockchain technology field advances through its conferences, working groups, and professional networks. For students entering the field, access to these spaces is often a matter of finances and connections, both of which the Foundation works to address.

Our student sponsorship program funds students with demonstrated interest and ability in blockchain technology to attend leading industry conferences, private dinners, and curated networking events. Sponsorship covers registration, travel, and accommodation as applicable, and includes introductions to practitioners and researchers relevant to each student's area of focus.

We look for students who are serious about contributing to the field, not necessarily those with the most credentials, but those with the clearest thinking and the strongest commitment to learning. Applicants may come from computer science, economics, public policy, law, or any discipline that intersects meaningfully with blockchain technology.

How to Apply

Visit our contact page and select "Student Sponsorship" from the subject dropdown. We review applications on a rolling basis. There is no application fee.

Sponsored students are not required to endorse any position of the Foundation or any blockchain project. Our interest is in their development, not their alignment.
